The Rough Canyon Trail is a cool 2.9-mile loop at Robbers Cave State Park. It has lots of interesting rocks and rock formations, varied terrain, and in wetter times, beautiful views of the Rough Canyon stream.

The trailhead is adjacent to the Robbers Cave Nature Trail, the small trail that goes by the actual Robbers Cave rock formations.

See this post for the full profile of the Rough Canyon Trail with pics from my April 2, 2016 hike.

These are some additional photos from that hike.

The Rough Canyon Trail is one of the most popular trails at Robbers Cave State Park (near Wilburton, Latimer County, Oklahoma). It’s a scenic 2.9-mile loop that starts about 100 feet from the Robbers Cave Nature Trail (the cave area).

Among the trail’s highlights are the Rough Canyon (a creek valley) and Lost Lake areas.

This is moderately challenging trail with about 500 feet of cumulative elevation gain. The elevation change is only about 250 feet though.

Quite a bit of the trail is rocky. While lots of rocks can make walking a bit tougher, they also add beauty and character.

Robbers Cave Nature Trail is a pretty cool .4-mile loop trail at Robbers Cave State Park (Latimer County, Oklahoma, near Wilburton) in the Sans Bois Mountains of southeast Oklahoma. It’s a must-see if you’re in the area.

The trail goes around and over some really cool rock formations, including the namesake Robbers Cave.

The Cedar Lake Trail in the Ouachita National Forest (LeFlore County, Oklahoma) is  an enjoyable and scenic 2.8-mile trail making a loop around the lake.

There is a bit of climbing here and there, but it is pretty easy overall.
