Lake Ouachita: Caddo Bend Trail ā€“ 4 mi

One of my favorite hikes around the Hot Springs area is the Caddo Bend Trail at Lake Ouachita State Park (Garland County). This 4-mile moderately challenging loop showcases the beauty of the forest that blankets the Ouachita Mountains. It also has beautiful views of Lake Ouachita.

Lake Dardanelle: Meadowbrook Trail ā€“ 1 mi

This is a pleasant and easy nature trail at Lake Dardanelle State Park in Russellville (Pope County). The trail (including the full loop) is just .8 miles. There also are a couple of shortcuts that can be used to make a shorter hike (i.e., a smaller loop).

Hideout Hollow Trail + Falls (Buffalo River) – 2 mi (o&b)

Hideout Hollow Trail is a scenic little trail in the Buffalo River Upper District (Newton County near Compton). It features some beautiful views and ends in a great bluff and waterfall area. It is a 1.8-mile out-and-back hike (.9 miles each way). There is a lot to see and enjoy on this short trail.

Buckeye Trail – Caney Creek Trail Loop (Ouachita Forest) – 9 mi

Ponds Loop (Buffalo River) ā€“ .5 mi

The Ponds Loop is an easy and scenic short loop trail, about .4 miles, in the Buffalo National River’s upper district (in Newton County). It is right off Erbie Campground Road (County Road 79), next to the Cedar Glade Picnic Area.

Queen Wilhelmina: Spring Trail ā€“ 1 mi (o&b)

The Spring Trail at Queen Wilhelmina State Park on Rich Mountain (Polk County, near Mena) is a short but enjoyable wooded walk.
