Fuzzybutt Falls (Richland Creek Wilderness, Ozark Forest)

Fuzzybutt Falls (southwest Searcy County, Ozark National Forest) is a waterfall that I’ve always heard about (mostly because of the name) but had no idea what a great, easy hike it is to get to with a lot of bang for your buck along the way. The hike, most of which is in the Richland Creek Wilderness, […]

Mount Magazine: North Rim Trail Pics

The North Rim Trail at Mount Magazine State Park (Logan County, near Paris) is a wonderfully scenic hike with some great vista views. As an out-and-back hike, it is 5 miles (2.5 miles each way), but it’s not difficult. About the only significant elevation change is in a stretch in the western part. My full review […]

Robbers Cave: Rough Canyon Trail Pics

The Rough Canyon Trail is a cool 2.9-mile loop at Robbers Cave State Park. It has lots of interesting rocks and rock formations, varied terrain, and in wetter times, beautiful views of the Rough Canyon stream. The trailhead is adjacent to the Robbers Cave Nature Trail, the small trail that goes by the actual Robbers […]

Earthquake Ridge Trail Pics (Ouachita Forest)

The Earthquake Ridge Trail, including the adjacent Southern Loop, is an enjoyable 3-mile hike at the east end of the Talimena Scenic Drive (Highway 88) near Mena, Arkansas. This Ouachita National Forest hike is easy to locate, starting at the Visitor Information Center. My profile of this trail with pics from my June 6, 2015 hike is in […]

Mount Nebo: Pics of Nebo Steps/Nebo Springs Trails

The Nebo Steps/Nebo Springs loop at Mount Nebo State Park (Yell County, near Dardanelle and Russellville) is fun little hike. Although it’s short, it is a workout as it makes the steep climb down from the rim level to the bench road level and back. It’s a beautiful hike though with interesting rock formations and […]

Devil’s Den: Yellow Rock Trail – 3 mi

Yellow Rock Trail at Devil’s Den State Park (southern Washington County, Arkansas) is one of my favorite trails. This 3.1-mile semi-loop hike has beautiful views and wonderfully interesting and scenic rocks formations. The trail is a semi-loop with two major spurs. The opening half-mile spur connects then to a largely triangular-shaped loop.
