Pigeon Roost Trail, Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area Toward the end of August last year, I did a hike on the Pigeon Roost Trail at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, the largest state park in Arkansas.
Pigeon Roost is one of the most popular trails in the park. (Check out the trail summary with maps and elevation profile .)
The trail consists of a west loop (Huckleberry), an east loop (Dry Creek), and then a .7-mile starting spur on the east end. The two loops have a .6-mile overlap in the middle.
Beaver Lake near the Beaver Lake Overlook on the Pigeon Roost Trail It’s a 9.4-mile hike if you do the entire figure-8. On this hike, I just did the outer loop (i.e., without the middle overlap) taking it counterclockwise for an 8.2-mile hike.
It was pretty nice hiking weather in Benton County for a late August hike. It was partly cloudy with temps in the 80’s and a light breeze.
There was even a little bit of fall color here and there.
Although the net elevation change is only about 300 feet, there is a lot of up-and-downhill climbing on the trail. As I mentioned in the trail summary, it’s a pleasant wooded hike with the high points being the Beaver Lake Overlook at the northernmost point of the Dry Creek Loop and another stretch close to a Beaver Lake beach area at the north part of the Huckleberry Loop.
