The current Lake Fort Smith State Park is fairly new. The original park closed in 2002 due to the enlargement of the reservoir lake. The Rim Trail at Mount Nebo State Park (Yell County, near Dardanelle and Russellville) is one of the prettiest trails in Arkansas with amazing views from nearly the entire trail. Mount Nebo (Yell County, near Dardanelle and Russellville) is one of Arkansas’s most scenic state parks. The North Rim Trail at Mount Magazine State Park (Logan County, near Paris) is a wonderfully scenic hike with some great vista views. The Nebo Steps/Nebo Springs loop at Mount Nebo State Park (Yell County, near Dardanelle and Russellville) is fun little hike.
