Indian Rockhouse Cave on the Indian Rockhouse Trail, Buffalo Point Campground, Buffalo National River

This beautiful 3-mile loop at Buffalo Point Campground in the Buffalo National River near Yellville (Marion County, Ark.) is a must-see trail.

It is wonderfully scenic with many great points of interest including sculpted bedrock, a waterfall, a former zinc mine, and the Indian Rockhouse Cave.

It is a vigorous hike with about 400 feet of elevation change, but it is well worth it.

The Overlook Trail loop (about 1.3 miles) at the Buffalo Point Campground (Buffalo National River, Marion County) is an enjoyable and not-too-challenging walk with a cool overlook of the river.

The net elevation change is only about 200 feet. The trail starts at the same area as the Indian Rockhouse Trail.

Entrance to the Indian Rockhouse Cave

Back on June 1, I had an opportunity to again hike the Indian Rockhouse Trail at the Buffalo River’s Buffalo Point campground. It was a great hike.

The Indian Rockhouse Trail is a cool scenic 3-mile loop trail with a number of great features. In addition to the Indian Rockhouse cave, there is sculptured rock, a sinkhole, a Natural Bathtub, a waterfall, and an abandoned mine entrance.

One of the best trails at Bull Shoals Lake is just outside of Bull Shoals-White River State Park. The Dogwood Nature Trail is a pleasant 3-mile out-and-back hike (1.5 miles each way) that starts in the Lakeview Park Campground, a Corps of Engineers Recreation Area.

It is in the town of Lakeview, about a mile east of Bull Shoals-White River State Park.

The highlight of the trail is the bluff vista at the end. It is a beautiful area with great views of Bull Shoals Lake in all directions. (Be careful on the bluffs.)
